does anyone have experience with modification mk1 239mm discs on 256mm discs...i bought front brakes from polo gti 6n2 lucas calipers and the adapter is different...space between two bolts that holds calliper is wider,so i would like to ask if anyone have ideas for this kind of upgrade...which adapters fits (which car-audi models or some others vw-s)...Greetings from Croatia! :thumbup:

source scirocco mk2 16v spindles and brakes, they had 256 mm brakes and are a direct fit on a golf mk1

that's the main problem...i've allready try to find rocco's brakes...but the pursuit was not successfully...rocco is very rare appearrance here in Croatia...maybe a few exempel is driveing on our streets...and i allready bought this polo brakes in willingness to put them on!! maybe some other suggestion?? help of welding maybe??

we used vr6 280mm disk on an mk I, just needed a spacer and to put the original caliper in the right place! its maybe a hundred times better!

In the Dutch section is some info, but that's in Dutch :rolleyes:

You can use the adapters of an Audi 5cyl type 81/85 from before 1987. A passat 5cyl. from the early 80's has the same brakes, but will probably be even harder to find...

Thanks people!!! ...few days ago i lost my mind, took the welder and make the conversion on my own!!! it looks pretty good (and pretty strong) you will see the pictures soon...it takes two days to prepare and to make hole modification!! Dont ask me why have i done that, parts are hard to find, but when you find it they are most in shitty condition, or from car accident... and after 8 months of hard pursuit i find the right wheels for my car- BBS RS771!!! JeiJJJ ;)

I make a 6mm plate and weld it all around to make sure everything is safe enough

it looks pretty solid, but welding cast iron leaves me with an iffy taste in my mouth.

yep.. Cast iron is very brittle and welding it does not improve the strenght of the material around the weld.. The weld itself is strong, but without a serious heat treatment (normalising and annealing) it will always be a guess how safe your setup will be.

But nevertheless;

The welding looks neat and I can understand you were desperate, here in NL the rocco adapters are also hard to find..

i used special electrode for cast iron, and weld it on 200A...i think that the 6mm metal plate i`ve used is pretty strong because the structure was not changed...i was thinking maybe to cut the spire m12 down below the egsisting m12 spire for carriers,and use bolt without head and weld it in this new spire...

i`m now at vacations, hardly waiting to come back to my garage :tongue:
