newbie here...but I have been watching this site for a long while....

well, when I considered a different styling for my mk1 (as opposed to my other vw's)... I thought of the Dutch...so the results will come slowly.. Here is how she looks today...

83 Rabbit s, 1,7 8v, 15x8's all around, TT header and Magnaflow equipped, kw v1's all around...still debating on the squares though...I just love the look of the round crosshairs ;)

Weird, I've never heard of a dutch style when it comes to VWs. Care to elaborate?

well, every modded or restored mk1 that I have come across the past 2 years that has captivated my eye has been Dutch plated...so, there must be something in the drinking water (or beer for that matter)..I can post pix, but I do not want to depress you :D

Whatever the styling, at the end of the day, it's all European...the subject title is just my preference at the moment due to what I have sen thus far...

don't do it mate, westies are getting rare

the decision gets harder every day...I respect the Westy rarity but man, I just love the look of the sigle rounds and the small Euro chrome bumpers...

Still thinking about a compromise, so if there are any pix out there of a Westy front with the small metal Euro bumpers, please feel free to post up

Well, put in the Euro-front w/ the Euro bumpers, and throw the Westy in your garage, for safe keeping. ;) See? No harm done, and when you wan't to change it back, it's still there. :)

Good luck on the decision. And you have a great Golf Mk1 btw!

Love those 'wide' rear-lights.. make the car 'flat'

Just a pain to see though, that the panel underneath is 'made' for the early small euro lights.. ( which I just noticed looking at it a bit longer)

yeh but changing to smalls is very easy, just weld in 2 small plates over the bigger holes or get a cabby delete plate. retrofitting them to a euro smalltail golf is also very easy.

I have a Westy rear clip in storage, complete with the wide tail lamps, if you (or someone else) are interested in buying it.

I was told it wasn't so easy at all and that you infact do need the rearplate if you want to swap from the standard big to small lights and vice versa.

Wide rearlights & westy front give it a little USA-sauce over this european look. Must say that I'm impressed with the end result. Color matches with the model of the car. Nice one!

lol...I like those 3 rules...but a long and boring winter has got me itching for a change....where it stands, the interior will remain the same for now ;)

but, there has been a transformation of sorts. And, the good thing is that I have now completely ridden myself of any rust on the car  Colour is still the same though.

well..it's been a long and winding road...so alot of progress on the mk1 and alot of trial and error to try to get this to how I envisioned the project.

enough talk and more pics :)

cleaned out the bay as best as possible for now...body shop ended up closing it's doors for good so I only had a week or so to finish the job or my car was getting locked in :shake:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v291/rsjetta/IMG00028-20090429-1240-1.jpg

re-installed the 8V for now, just cleaned up all of the wriing and added a little bling. I am working on a carbed 16V so I want to do it right the first time, and chrome the hell out of it for Paul :D

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v291/rsjetta/IMG00032-20090505-1314-1-1.jpg

brought it home last weekend, still ran like a champ except the battery was so drained that it needed a new battery.

Also, decided to change the local game here a little..since everyone is looking for big dish rims and they are becoming a dime a dozen, well, why not take it back a little

how she is sitting right now, until I can notch the pass side frame rail for more axle room to slam this thing down a little more.

I'll post some pics of the engine bay in a couple of days...the 1.7l 8v is running surprisingly well and the mechanical fuel injection is very reliable...

how did u actually chrome your RM's?
thats more expensive than doing RS' !

jungli81
02-06-2009, 01:41
they were done in Germany by a friend. And it was expensive because of the 2 piece nature.. But the wheels were almost free so it was worth it.

Problem is now that I have 2 sets of chromed RM's :D

Things to do this weekend:

-replace some grommets to avoid any unnecessary leaking from rain
-replace door scapers
-detail the engine bay
-and more importantly, get my bloody framed notched so I can lower this thing down again

Chromosexual
02-06-2009, 01:51
I swear to GOD I had no idea that they were actually copper & nickel plated. I wrongly assumed they were just powder.

My sincere appologies!

...sounds like you have some money to recoup on the 2nd set :D

if you are doing the 16v swap why not wait to notch it when you do the swap Jimbo?

Hood hinges look great Paul.

Got your email as well. I will put together some parts in a box to send to you in the next week or so.

The underhood is strictly paint. It's a two tone -the brown is a Porsche color called Macadamia Mettalic. It's a nice color because it is very reflective
