VW sold the rights to old models and the plans to a chinese company who are now re-producing them.

Be warned, the parts will never be up to VW quality, they are produced by a completely different company!

Pedaalemmer 31-08-2004 10:10

if it`s not from volkswagen, they can keep it in china...

VolkswagenRacing 31-08-2004 10:16

There is a Golf 5 in the Norwegian VW-Audi club who has this badge on the rear end. Kinda cool, I think.

Tjaap 21-11-2004 20:18

DÁ-BRT 30-12-2004 00:31

Oh, they shouldn't have.... no really.... :sly:

Tjaap 10-02-2010 18:21

i don't mind the mk6look front, but the rear is terrible... looks almost home-made..

Tjaap 16-02-2010 01:31

The tooling was shipped over from the USA in 1988 or 89, as mentioned. They started building stock lookalikes in 1991 (same year the Mk3 came out in Europe).

The Jetta King with the B4 Passat front end came out in 1995 ( a year after the B4's debut in Europe). It used the same Mk2 body with different bumpers, fenders, and a front end tacked on. Tail lights were slightly different but swappable. Dashboard was a modified Corrado unit. Basically all superficial mods.

(you can see the rear at the top of the pic too)

In 2004 the new Jetta King came out (I think this is the same year they discontinued the basic Jetta model which was still being made). The new King had different basic frame stampings to accommodate China-specific things (like the tail lights, seals, etc).

Now in 2010 we have the new model :)

Archiebald 16-02-2010 13:07

OMG, this is really funny... For us at least, we don't have to buy this "things"

I like the dashboard and the doorcards, only the steeringwheel is a little ugly...

Dutch_Jetta_GT 09-05-2010 20:04

Am i the only one who appreciates the chinese Jetta's?....

I like the current front end, makes a good old car going further in a fresh shape, rear is a bit to think about, but still, not very fugly,..

I don't mind receiving 1 for free to sit on my driveway.....

Tjaap 09-05-2010 21:14

same here, love the new front.. hate the rear

J.v.G 24-05-2010 19:41

I travel a lot to China for work. Have been to the VW Shanghai factory about 1.5 years ago.

Trust me every part is made in China. All the Santana's are with a complete plastic interior instead of cloth.

I made some pictures of the cars I saw there. Going again in a couple of weeks and make some more pictures.
