Glowplug help needed!

I have a 1990, VW 1600Turbo Diesel engine, and have a problem with the glowplugs. When the engine is cold they work fine, and when the engine is hot the warming light doesn't come like the handbook says. But after leaving standing for short lengths of time before the engine gets cold again, I have terrible trouble starting it and the glowplug light still dont come on untill the engine is totaly cold. Please help

There is a temp sensor that tells the glow plug relay the temperature of the engine, which makes the relay calculate how long it needs to glow the plugs. My bet is that you need to either replace the temp sensor or the glow plug relay.

Is this temp sensor the same one that runs the temp gague on the dash or is it a different one?

Cheers

You should look for the sensor that has a blue/white wire connected to it. (if you disconnect it you get full glow every time you turn the key, temporary fix for your problem anyway).

Yes, both sensors are the same. Older golf's '85-'88 have different sensors
