True, the written Norwegian language is largely based on Danish, because Norway and Denmark was in a union (read: Denmark occupied Norway) from 1660 to 1814. That's why we have their written language, but with our own way of talking it. 100 years ago, you could hardly see the difference between the written Norwegian vs. written Danish.
