laying out the cuts to make a jig today.
red cedar core, delrin inserts, proper epoxy, sealer, resin, fiberglass = $125cdn/board fins X 6 = $162cdn dakine footpads & straps = $110 cdn... sooo, $377cdn vs $650-1300cdn for a pro made board. might save $ on fins by buying one of each of the sizes we need (4x2" & 2x1.5") & making moulds of them... making some ghetto fins out of s-glass and resin. if it works, it works - if not, oh well - $5 wasted.
i'm making a 180 or so cm board to learn with, and a 140 something board for later. 2 friends will be making boards along with me. i might also make myself a third cheapie flat ply board with no fins too, as i'm told they're great fun for almost no $.
a number of kiters who travel to surf bring their hardware and just cutout a simple marine plyboard when they get to where they're going. sounds logical.
