The Rallye Golf
The Volkswagen Rallye Golf is based on the MKII Golf chassis and was developed to comply with the FIA standards in order to compete in the FIA WRC Championship. These standards demanded that a car which was to race in the WRC had a production volume of at least 5000. The Volkswagen Rallye Golf was built between 1988 and 1990 with a total of 5071 cars.

The Rallye is equipped with a 1H engine with a G60 G-Lader. This engine is a spin-off of the GTI-G60 PG Engine. There's one obvious point in which these two differ: the displacement. The 1H engine has a displacement of 1763cc which is a 18cc less then the PG engine with a 1781cc displacement. Reason for the smaller displacement can be found in the FIA regulations. Both of these engine develop 160 BHP and 225 Nm of Torque.

The Rallye only competed in the Group A WRC Championship during the 1990 Season. Due to a change in regulations, the other competitors where massively competing with a 2 litre 16v Turbo engine, which meant that the 1.8 8v G60 was overpowered by it's rivals. The season ended in a disappointing 17th place, also due to mechanical failures. In the 1991 Season, Erwin Weber competed in Germany's National Championship. This season proved to be a succesful year with a Drivers Championship for Erwin. Sadly VW decided to pull out at the end of that season. This meant that the car headed for the Netherlands...

In 1992 Dutch rally-driver Hans Weijs bought the car from VW Motorsport and competed in the Dutch Sprint Championship. In 1994 and 1995 Hans won the Dutch Championship and sold the car at the end of the 1995 season to a rally-driver in Denmark.

it was imported from switzerland to sweden in 1991 and i bought it in 2009.
it will be fully restored when i are finished with my golf 2 vr6 kompressor.

Hi, i have just found this site. I will show some pictures of my rallye later when i am home on my own PC.
I have a rallye that i do not know alot about, i used to dream about having one when i was a teenager, and after owning many bmw e30 e46 and many other cars, i finally bought a rallye.
All i know is my rallye lived in switzerland for some time, in 1996 it was imported to serbia, I am canadian and i have found and bought this car in serbia.
And am bringing it home with me.

thanks for the welcome, i just seriously hope i can be pointed in tehr giht direction to get info on my car, for example, im not sure how to figure out with production number out of the 5000 or so, was mine. since the vin and motor numbers dont seem to be so obviousl to me.
Either way ill continue to post my progress here

I have all the papers, i have written the car over onto my name, so it is completely legally in my ownership, although i dont have any service manuals or records. I have checked the VIN and motor code and they are real and original.
This is all the papers say, and they do match with the vehicle numbers

I Think its an awesome idea to try and collect all the rallyes.

I need to finish the engine Work, intercooler, piping, waterlines, radiator, new fans, custom mapping and so on. Duo to 1.8 20vt swap.
Havent had the Car so long, and never driven it, so i cant wait !!! :D

The only way, but you have to be extremely lucky, is to contact a dealership in the country where the Rallye has been serviced and ask if they kept a history of the vehicle. But 99 times out of 100 they do not have it as the vehicle is simply too old.

Surely there are also Dutch Rally's who are imported from Germany. That works also therefore it is strange that it not works with a car from Spain.

Maybe you can open a new topic in the Dutch part of the forum and hopefully somebody can give you tips and advice.

I sadly don't have experience so i cannot help you. :redface: I am curious about some pictures of the car though. :D
